I’m excited to be back on YouTube! However, I’m seeing a pattern. This is a mistake too many people are making when they start marketing their business, product, or service on YouTube is they seem to ignore the comments.
They attract someone to their video, someone will comment but they either take way too long to reply or never reply at all.
And they wonder why they never seem to be able to grow their YouTube audience efficiently.
Your YouTube community starts and ends with those who engage with your content. So here are 9 Top Tips to get the best out of YouTube comments to help grow your channel.
1. Read Every Comment
The most obvious and possibly the most cliche is to read every comment. When a viewer watches a video, they commit time. When they post a comment, they commit not only more time but also invest in thought, emotion, effort, and hope into something that encourages a response. Just like the video you made, you owe it to your community to make sure that comment is read.
2. Reply to Comments
Once those comments are read, you should reply to as many as you possibly can. The best way to view all your video comments is to find the ‘Comments’ Tab found under ‘Community’ section in your channel creator studio or video monitoring page. Replying to comments creates a conversation and turns your viewers into subscribers. Maybe even fans. And think of this: if you respond to every comment on your videos, you will double the engagement rate and YouTube’s algorithm will respond to you positively.
3. Filter Comments
But of course, if you are getting hundreds of comments a day, responding to everyone might be a bit overwhelming. VidIQ have free tools that might help. One is the comment filter tool that allows you to filter to view comments from high-subscriber channels and respond to them as a priority. VidIQ also leaves a subscriber number by each comment.
4. Create Template Responses
Another awesome tool from VidIQ is the comment template, found next to every comment.
You can create, save, and use template responses. These may be general Thank You’s or specific answers to common questions and opinions that often come up in your videos. They are a real time saver but try not to overuse them. Because you don’t want to copy and paste every response to a comment.
5. Like and ♥ Comments
As well as responding to comments, you can react to them too. You should give every positive comment at least a thumbs up, again to boost engagement, but it also acts as a receipt that you read the comment. But for comments that go for the extra mile, you can use the ♥ button just to the right next to the thumbs. This gives a more personal touch to the person who posted the comment because it informs them through a notification that you Love the comment. Again, it’s all about positive engagement and community building.
6. Pin Comments
Occasionally, there may be a comment that adds so much value to a video, that you can Pin the comment to the top of the list.
This can add to the video value that can generate a great conversation or a comment from somebody you collaborated with in the video.
7. Pin Your Comment
One more tip when you Pin a comment. You can use it for yourself if you want to and create a second Description Box. People don’t tend to extend Video Description Boxes but they will always see a Pinned Comment if they look at the comment section.
8. Community Tab
This tip is more advanced for those with 1,000 subscribers or more. But if you do have a Community Tab, make sure you use it as it’s super powerful.
In it, you can post general updates, pictures, and even voting polls. Consider it like Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram timeline for YouTube. The reason why it’s so powerful is that of its reach. These posts appear in Mobile subscription timelines. So you can get tons of engagement from your subscribers.
9. Likely Spam Tab
The final tip on comments is a necessary evil but one that should be checked every once in a while.
YouTube does a fairly good job of putting unwanted spam comments in this tab. But occasionally valuable comments that somehow find their way in there. So scan the list and recover any valuable comments by clicking on the check icon, or if you have the time, remove those that are spam.
